new york city skyline photos, photos of nyc skyline

This photo is dedicated to the millions of people who keep New York alive by giving up hours of their day, every day, to commute to the island of Manhattan.

The New York skyline is visible from miles around, but when you’re commuting it can often seem like you’re not getting any closer to your destination. Every time I ride the subway I see so many tired souls asleep on their commute, and I try to imagine how long they’ve been on the train? what time do they have to get up in the morning to make it to their job? how much of their lives do they give up to do this every day? and just how hard that must be? If you are one of those people, I have nothing but the utmost respect for your determination and commitment to the greatest city in the world.

This shot was taken from Roosevelt island, which is not far from the city at all… in fact, it takes less than 5 minutes to get there via the TRAM. I used a Zeiss 15mm f2.8 Distagon lens to create that distorted sense of distance that mimics the feeling of the vastness of the city and intenseness of the space surrounding Manhattan.

That space can swallow you whole… or make you whole… it’s up to you.
