A perfect image for Mother’s Day, and for all mom’s who cherish time with their little boy. This was just the perfect moment on a chilly Sunday spring morning in Central park… hanging out in a fully blossomed magnolia tree. This photo is also part of the magnolia collection; a three photo series of the Central Park magnolias all taken on the same day. Taken with a Zeiss 100mm f2 Makro Planar manual focus lens.
If there’s one thing that I’ve grown to appreciate since I started in artistic photography, it’s clouds. I never realized what interesting images clouds can produce, and this is one of my favorite example. This photo reminds me of all the wonderful images of the airy, bright, and incredibly detailed cathedral ceilings that we’ve all marveled at. The wide angle lens with it’s signature distortion creates the “shape” of this photo with the clouds and the city skyline all appearing to reach towards a central point. This was a very rare opportunity to capture this photo from such a perfect vantage point, and this would display beautifully in a simple gallery frame or floating canvas. Taken with a Zeiss 15mm f2.8 lens at f/5.6.
B&W silver toned photo of a classic Porsche sitting in the owner’s driveway. The entire image is slightly out of focus to enhance the aging feeling of a classic automobile, and even though this photo was taken in 2013, the image doesn’t give that away. The off center composition, the silver toned lighting, and lack of sharp focused detail, and a very interesting subject work together very well to show off a classic piece in a classic way. Taken with a Zeiss 50mm Makro Planar manual focus lens shot wide open at f/2.
An intriguing set of neatly aligned boat docking stands seen in an old shipyard in Connecticut. The slightly out of focus background helps the subject pop out of the photo into attention. This photo reminds me of a line of soldiers with their prominent white armbands all in a row standing at attention in wartime, and that personification is only furthered by the old look and feel of the black and white. One of my all-time favorites. Taken with a Zeiss 50mm Makro Planar manual focus lens wide open at f/2, 1/4000.
