Sometimes a photograph turns out better than you expected… and what a wonderful surprise that is when it happens! I hovered the lens over a pile of dead leaves that happened to have a ray of sunshine scurrying across them, opened the aperture all the way to f/2 to cut the plane of focus down to just a few millimeters, let my breath leave me to steady myself, and took this photo. The colors are astounding. The structure of the leaf is astounding. The artistic rendering with the vast majority of the image out of focus is astounding. I wasn’t expecting this, but it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. Taken with a Carl Zeiss 100mm Makro Planar, which is a true artist’s lens.
