Lovely B&W image of a seagull soaring over the East River during a spring sunset. The wide angle view minimized the backdrop of the city just enough to allow the bird’s silhouette to be the centerpiece of the photograph, and also allowed a touch of foreground shore to become a part of the overall composition. This would make a wonderful medium-sized piece in any New York apartment. Taken with a Zeiss 21mm f2.8 Distagon lens which absolutely cannot be beat for this kind of shot.

Black and white photo of a beautiful long needle pine in North Carolina in a town called Pinehurst which is famous for it’s pines. The single ray of sunshine gave the image some contrast, and the shallow depth of field with only a few strands in sharp focus gave it a really nice artistic feel. Perfect for a simple gallery frame. Taken with a Zeiss 100mm Makro Planar lens.

The tiny leaves of this plant look like they would run so softly across your skin.
There are two ironies in this image: 1) most of the image is slightly out of focus, 2) it was taken in broad daylight on a bright sunny day. The aperture of my lens was set wide open (f/2) to give that soft feel to the photo, the shutter speed was 1/6000 to limit the amount of light coming into the camera, and my exposure compensation was -1.7 to create an even darker image. No post-processing… just good use of the camera’s features to produce the image I wanted.
Taken with a Zeiss 100mm Makro Planar lens which is famous for the soft blurry quality of its backgrounds (bokeh).
