Zeiss 135mm apo sonnar lens

This photo is in celebration of the 2014 Sochi Olympics and all the athletes who participated. Taken in Rockerfeller Center New York with a Zeiss 135mm Apo Sonnar lens, which is one of my favorite performers in terms of color accuracy and vibrance. The evening light provided all the contrast to make this image stand out as a recognizable scene to any native New Yorker.

Zeiss 50mm f2 Makro Planar ZE mount for Canon 5D Mark III

A black and white photo of a soft white rose on Valentine’s Day that would make a lovely framed piece in almost any area of the home. This was taken with a fairly large aperture in an effort to create a shallow depth of field with most of the image out of focus for that soft feeling that these roses had in real life. Taken with a Zeiss 50mm f2 Makro Planar lens mounted on a Canon 5D Mark III camera.

brake for love

Zeiss 35mm f1.4 Distagon lens

A perfect image of love and happiness for Valentines Day. I came across a cab driver taking a break to say goodbye to his wife before starting his shift and couldn’t resist capturing the moment. Taken with a Zeiss 35mm f1.4 Distagon lens and cropped to a 1:1 aspect ratio. Shot at f/2.8. Looking back on this image, I wish I would have shot this at f/1.8 or f/2 to isolate my subjects a little more, but it’s still a wonderful photo that is full of feeling nonetheless.

zeiss 100mm f2 ZE mount Makro Planar lens photos

The sky has some of the most beautiful photographs just waiting to be captured, but only if you’re watching. Images like this come and go so quickly, and most of them are truly once in a lifetime shots since most of them will never happen the same way again. This orange streak of sunshine worked it’s way through these delicate clouds and turned an otherwise flat, uninteresting sky into a scene with color, definition, and feeling. Taken with a Zeiss 100mm Makro Planar lens, which isn’t really the right tool for the job, but it was all I had a available at the time. And, I’m glad it was available because this image was completely different within 10 seconds.

Zeiss 100mm f2 Makro Planar

Color photograph of an artists diverse selection of brushes organized in jars in her studio. The subdued colors are wonderful, as is the shallow depth of field that mimics the feeling of peeking through her supplies, which is something I love to do. This would make a gorgeous small 11×14 or 16×20 canvas. Taken with a Zeiss 100mm Makro Planar manual focus lens mounted on a Canon 5DIII camera at f/2.

Canon 135mm f2 L series lens for street photography

Reality has a way of taking it’s toll on all of us. I saw this gentleman resting in Central Park in early fall… taking in the scenery around him, and wishing perhaps he wasn’t so tired. I love the grainy, cinematic feel of this photograph, and the stunning tonality throughout the image. Taken with a Canon 135mm f2 L series lens at f/2.

zeiss 35mm f2 distagon lens

Black and white photo of silence… almost complete silence on a very cold winter evening with only a single duck stirring the crisp reflections in the water. The soft details in the distance make this photo a special one, as do the silver undertones throughout the image. Taken with a Zeiss 35mm f2 Distagon lens at f/5.6, 1/30 handheld, ISO 3200.

zeiss 100mm makro planar manual focus lens for canon

I love the magic that evening light creates. This is an ordinary statue with worn surfaces and washed out colors that suddenly came alive with feeling when I took this close up shot in the late evening while the sun was setting. The colors popped, the shadow divided the composition nicely, and the feeling of serenity that I’m sure the artist intended for this piece suddenly came shining through. This would make an AMAZING large canvas piece! Taken with the most artistic lens I know of… the Zeiss 100mm Makro Planar.

Zeiss 50mm Makro Planar lens

The Upper East Side is known for being ultra posh, and that includes their well manicured sidewalk gardens (“please curb your dogs”). These beautiful vibrant flowers caught my attention while strolling through the UES, and I decided to take advantage of an unusual vantage point to amplify the work someone put into the shaping process for this miniature garden. This would make a wonderful medium sized floating canvas for a seasonal art refresher in almost any room of the house. Taken with a Carl Zeiss 50mm f2 Makro Planar lens.

Lovely morning light on a flower at the New York Botanical Gardens last fall. Beautiful soft out of focus background, and a similar energy to one of the most popular photos on this site… ‘serenity’. Taken with a Canon 85mm f1.2II lens at f/1.8.
